Wild Lockdown: Engineers of the wild

26 April 2020

European beavers (Castor fiber) are called the engineers of the wild because they actively manage their territory and hugely benefit the biodiversity of ecosystems.

We are lucky to have a family living in the local river. We often see their distinct teeth marks where these nocturnal animals have been feeding on plants and trees, and we very rarely see one swimming past in daylight. Two nights ago we heard them feeding and last night was the first time that I managed to take some photographs of two of them. It was already quite dark, so I had to push my camera to its limits. But I still love this pictures.
